Cliche — Privacy Policy

Cliche is a Gmail extension that inserts pre-made email templates with editable fields. Below is a description of what data it processes and how.

Data stored

All templates, folders, and dictionaries you create in Cliche (names, email HTML content, field values) are stored locally in your browser using the standard extension storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data is never sent to any Cliche server — the extension has no backend of its own.

Google Drive sync (optional)

If you enable sync, Cliche requests access only to the narrow drive.appdata scope — a hidden application data folder in your Google Drive that isn't visible in your regular file list and isn't accessible to other apps. It stores a single file containing all your templates and dictionaries, used to carry them between browsers. Cliche does not request access to any other files in your Drive.

Your Google access token is stored locally in the browser and is used only to reach your appDataFolder. Cliche never transmits this token, or the content of your emails and templates, to any third party.

Gmail access

Cliche runs as a content script on mail.google.com to show the templates panel and insert the selected template into the email you're composing. The extension does not read or transmit the content of your emails anywhere — text insertion happens entirely locally, in the browser.

Diagnostics

While syncing with Google Drive, Cliche keeps a short local log of recent sync actions (e.g. "token received", "file uploaded") solely so you can see what went wrong. Tokens, passwords, and template content are never written to this log. The log is stored only in your own browser and nowhere else.

What Cliche does not do

• Does not collect analytics or track usage.
• Does not show ads.
• Does not sell or share user data with third parties.
• Does not use data for any purpose unrelated to the extension's direct functionality.

Update check

At your request, the extension may contact the public GitHub API to check Cliche's latest version number. This request transmits no data about you or the extension's contents — only the fact of a request to the public release list.

Data deletion

Removing the extension from your browser deletes all of Cliche's locally stored data. To delete data from Google Drive, open the Google app permissions page (https://myaccount.google.com/permissions) and revoke Cliche's access — this also deletes the file in appDataFolder.
